AngelFish brings data connectivity and safety functionality within reach of millions of small-scale fisheries, making it possible both to manage fish stocks and have modern safety standards at sea.
Safety at Sea
Our AngelFish device brings affordable safety standards to the small-scale and artisanal fisherman. During an emergency situation, standard AIS safety messages alert nearby vessels and are also relayed via satellite by Spire’s exactTrax™ service. This gives real time coverage of current and historical positions, and ensures global coverage regardless of a vessel’s distance from shore.
Hook-to-Cook
We support and closely work with Hook-to-Cook initiatives and other traceability schemes. These programmes aim to connect small-scale fisheries directly to the market. A primary example is Abalobi, a small-scale fisher-driven enterprise originally initiated in South Africa and now being rolled-out in other countries. We share Abalobi’s vision of guiding and empowering fishing communities towards entrepreneurship and improved safety at sea. As well as tracking, the AngelFish makes catch data services affordable, making it possible for fishers and fisheries to become part of initiatives that incentivise and reward them for traceable fishing.
